Very vigorous, award-winning Lysimachia nummularia ‘Aurea’ (Golden Creeping Jenny) is a low-growing evergreen perennial forming an attractive mat of rounded to heart-shaped leaves, 1 in. long (2.5 cm), along the trailing stems. The foliage ranges from lime green to soft chartreuse in shade to a brassy gold in full sun. Blooming in early to midsummer, single, bright yellow, cup-shaped flowers, 1 in. across (2 cm), adorned with five pointed lobes are borne in the leaf axils. Wonderful in containers or hanging baskets where it will spill gracefully. Equally useful in rock gardens or as casual ground cover. Great as an edging plant near bog gardens. Use golden creeping Jenny carefully as it can be invasive.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 3-6 in. tall (7-15 cm) and 12-18 in. wide (30-45 cm). Plants spread by rhizomes and self-seeding in optimum growing conditions to form large colonies. Stems may root where leaf nodes touch the ground.
  • Performs best in full sun or part shade, in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soils. This plant requires partial shade in hot summer areas. It can be grown in containers set in 1-6 in. water (2-15 cm).
  • Creeping Jenny is generally pest and disease free.
  • Propagate by stem cuttings in spring.
  • Native to Europe, Lysimachia nummularia species can be invasive. However, the golden cultivars are much less aggressive and suitable for lovely use in ornamental plantings.
