Matthiola longipetala (Night-Scented Stock) is a sprawling annual with lance-shaped, gray-green leaves and delicate sprays of small, pale lilac to white flowers. The flowers open in the evening hours and release a most powerful and sweet fragrance. Blooming profusely over a long season extending from spring to fall, they are perfect for sunny borders, and patio containers, and can be harvested for use in cut floral arrangements – thanks to their long vase life (8 days). Ridiculously easy to grow and fast-growing, plant Night-Scented Stock where you can enjoy its beautiful fragrance!

  • Grows up to 18-24 in. tall and wide (45-60 cm).
  • Extremely easy to grow, this annual plant loves full sun and prefers neutral to slightly alkaline, well-draining soil. Provide a sheltered location.
  • A great choice for beds and borders, containers, and cottage gardens.
  • Propagate by seed sown in situ in spring, and repeated later for a succession of flowers.
  • Virtually disease-free. Keep an eye out for aphids, slugs, and snails.
  • Native to Europe
