Omphalodes cappadocica (Cappadocian Navelwort)

Cappadocian Navelwort, Cappadocian Navelseed, Creeping-Forget-Me-Not

Omphalodes cappadocica (Cappadocian Navelwort) is a clump-forming, evergreen perennial boasting charming sprays of white-eyed, bright blue flowers, reminiscent of forget-me-not, in spring. The brilliant, tiny flowers are highlighted against the finely hairy, ovate, emerald green leaves, 3-4 in. long (7-10 cm). Fast-growing, Cappadocian Navelwort will quickly form a vibrant carpet in shady areas of the garden. Ideal for a shady border to weave through shrubs and perennials or to hide the fading foliage of spring bulbs. Vigorous, plant it in large drifts to create a sea of blue.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 6-9 in. tall (15-22 cm) and 9-12 in. wide (22-30 cm).
  • Performs best in part shade to full shade in moderately fertile, moist soils. Drought tolerant once established. Apply winter mulch.
  • Great as a groundcover, underplanting shrubs and roses, in beds and borders and cottage gardens.
  • Generally disease free. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails.
  • Cut down after flowering.
  • Propagate by seed in pots in a cold frame in spring. Propagate by division in early spring.
  • Native to Asia Minor.
