Phlox drummondii 'Cherry Caramel' (Annual Phlox) is an erect annual boasting a profusion of showy, cream-caramel and soft pink flowers adorned with a cherry-pink center. Blooming in flat clusters from summer to fall, the sweetly fragrant blossoms are a favorite of bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinating insects. Borne at the tips of the stems, they rise above the foliage of small lance-shaped dark-green leaves. Treasured in gardens since the 1800s, Phlox drummondii is a terrific addition along walkways or in patio containers where its delightful fragrance can be enjoyed. Ideal for cutting,

  • Grows up to 16 in. tall (40 cm) and 12 in. wide (30 cm). Annual Phlox will self-seed in the garden for an abundant floral display the following year.
  • Thrives in full sun in fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Appreciates some afternoon shade in hot climates.
  • Excellent choice for beds and borders, city gardens, cottage gardens, or containers. Good cut flowers.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for powdery mildew, stem and bulb eelworm. Deer resistant.
  • Flowers should be deadheaded regularly (to the extent practicable) to promote blooming and growth.
  • Cut back after flowering. Allow some spent blooms to remain if self-sowing is desired.
  • Propagate by seed.
  • Phlox drummondii species is native to Texas.
