Phlox ‘Purple Sprite’ (Hybrid Spring Phlox) is a mound-forming perennial boasting a profusion of bright purple star-shaped flowers adorned with a tiny white halo in their center. Blooming in mid to late spring, the blossoms are produced in such great quantities that they cover the foliage. This hybrid spring phlox blooms a week or so later than Phlox subulata (Creeping Phlox), and does not spread aggressively. It makes a beautiful groundcover and is perfect for rock gardens, cottage gardens and flower borders. Plant with spring bulbs for a long-awaited splash of color in your garden.

  • Grows only 6-8 in. tall (15-20 cm) and 18-22 in. wide (45-55 cm).
  • Prefers full sun (tolerates light shade) and enjoys medium moisture, well-drained soils. Gritty, neutral soils are preferred and good drainage is essential
  • Excellent choice for rock gardens, edgings or ground covers. Perfectly suited to border fronts and lovely when slightly draping a rock wall. A great companion for tulips and daffodils… and butterflies too!
  • Hardy, this hybrid spring phlox is trouble-free, salt tolerant and requires little care.
  • Shear this plant back and clean up any dead foliage in early summer, just after it’s finished blooming. This will produce denser foliage and will encourage it to rebloom.
