Picea glauca var. albertiana ‘Sander’s Blue’ (White Spruce) is a dense, dwarf evergreen conifer of pointed, conical habit with perfectly uniform branching. Its fine slate blue needles when young turn green as the plant gets older, often creating a pretty bi-color effect. A slow grower, 3-6 in. per year (7-15 cm), this Dwarf White Spruce makes a glorious accent in a mixed border and is perfect in any garden settings.

  • Grows up to 6 ft. tall (180 cm) and 3 ft. wide (90 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates light shade. Generally prefers cool climates and will struggle in hot and humid climate areas. Provide good air circulation.
  • Perfect as a distinctive specimen plant in the sunny border, cottage gardens, rock gardens or containers.
  • Watch for adelgids, aphids, conifer red spider mite and honey fungus. Easy to grow and easy to care for.
  • No pruning required.
  • Propagate by grafting in winter, or semi-hardwood cuttings in summer.
