Sisyrinchium angustifolium 'Lucerne' (Blue-Eyed Grass)
Blue-Eyed Grass 'Lucerne', Grass Flower 'Lucerne'
Sisyrinchium angustifolium 'Lucerne' (Blue-Eyed Grass) is a clump-forming perennial noted for its tuft of narrow grass-like, dark green foliage which gives way to large, bright violet-blue, star-like flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), adorned with yellow centers. Borne atop branched flowering stems, they bloom profusely in late spring and early summer. This is a charming little plant for accents along paths or walkways, in rockeries or naturalized in cottage gardens. One of the best selections for areas with hot, humid summers.
- Grows up to 10 in. high (25 cm) and 15 in. wide (37 cm).
- Performs best in full sun or light shade, in medium moisture, well-drained soils. Protect from excessive winter wet.
- Ideal addition to borders, city gardens, cottage gardens or rock gardens. Great for edging or as a groundcover.
- Propagate by division in spring
- Will self-seed under satisfying growing conditions. Shear back after flowering to prevent undesired self-seeding.
- Benefits from regular division, every 2-3 years, to maintain vigor.
