Sisyrinchium angustifolium (Blue-Eyed Grass) is a clump-forming, semi-evergreen perennial noted for its dense tuft of narrow grass-like, light-green leaves and its clusters of delicate, violet-blue, star-shaped flowers, 0.5 in. across (1 cm), adorned with yellow centers. Borne atop flattened flowering stems, they bloom profusely in late spring and early summer. Blue-Eyed Grass is a terrific plant for accents along paths or walkways, in rockeries or naturalized in cottage gardens.

  • Grows up to 18-24 in. high (45-60 cm) and 6-12 in. wide (15-30 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun or light shade, in medium moisture, well-drained soils. This perennial will decline if allowed to dry out. Protect from excessive winter wet.
  • Ideal addition to borders, city gardens, cottage gardens or rock gardens. Great for edging or as a groundcover.
  • Propagate by division in spring
  • Will freely self-seed under satisfying growing conditions. Shear back after flowering to prevent undesired self-seeding.
  • Benefits from regular division, every 2-3 years, to maintain vigor.
  • Native to North America
