Tanacetum cinerariifolium (Pyrethrum Daisy)

Pyrethrum, Pyrethrum Daisy, Insect-Powder Plant, Dalmatia Pyrethrum, Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium

Tanacetum cinerariifolium (Pyrethrum Daisy) is a showy perennial forming a compact mound of strongly aromatic, silvery, ferny foliage which remains decorative most of the year. Blooming for several weeks in early summer, shimmering white daisies hover on wiry stems above the foliage. Well-behaved, Pyrethrum Daisy self-sows mildly. Undemanding, pest and disease resistant, it is well-suited to the water-wise garden and landscape. Its flowers are also a source of natural insecticide.

  • Grows up to 18-24. tall and wide (45-60 cm).
  • Performs best in sun or part shade in dry to medium, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Good choice for cottage gardens or naturalized areas. Excellent as fresh cut flowers.
  • No serious pest or disease issues.
  • Cut back after flowering to refresh the appearance and to minimize seeding if not desired.
  • Propagate by seed. Divide established plants every few years to keep them healthy and to prevent them from becoming too invasive.
  • Native to Europe.
