A Charming Plant Combination for Shady Gardens: Hydrangea, Japanese Maple and Boxwood

Perennial Combinations, Plant Combinations, Flowerbeds Ideas, Spring Borders, Summer Borders, Fall Borders

Easy on the eyes, this simple and elegant plant combination is a pleasure to live with. Perfect for the shade garden, its refreshing plant palette of green and white plants provides a cooling and pleasing effect. Starring in this planting is Buxus sempervirens 'Suffruticosa' (Boxwood), a very versatile evergreen boxwood, clipped into topiary for extra interest.

In spring to summer, the wonderfully fragrant and delicate flowers of deciduous Azaleas make a great entrance in this garden border. They are followed in summer by the large and brilliant white blossoms of the fabulous Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' (Smooth Hydrangea).

Equally ravishing are the graceful, spreading branches of Acer palmatum 'Elegans' (Japanese Maple) which offer excitement in the fall when their foliage turns bright orange and red.

These outstanding shrubs are combined with award-winning perennials, including pretty variegated Hosta, graceful Astilbes with long-lasting flower plumes and the fresh, unfurled green fronds of Matteuccia struthiopteris (Ostrich Fern).

An easy and remarkable scenery to enjoy from spring to fall. Most plants are rabbit resistant and have been granted the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for their outstanding qualities. Enjoy!
