A Pretty Prairie Planting Idea with Echinacea pallida, Eryngium and Agastache

Perennial Combinations, Plant Combinations, Prairie Planting Ideas, Summer Borders

This prairie style planting is composed of vigorous perennials which will add drama in your garden from early summer to fall. Combined to bring together a range of colors as well as different forms, this plant combination created by world acclaimed designer Piet Oudolf, brilliantly associates the elegant, soft pink Echinacea pallida (Pale Purple Coneflower) with the vertical flower spikes of Veronicastrum virginicum 'Lavendelturm' (Culver's Root) and Agastache 'Black Adder' (Giant Hyssop).

This perennial combination is further spiced up with the luminous, creamy clusters of small, egg-shaped flowerheads of Eryngium yuccifolium (Rattlesnake Master).

Attractive to butterflies or hummingbirds but ignored by deer, these plants also make excellent cut flowers. Enjoy!
