Acacia cultriformis (Knife Acacia)

Knife Acacia, Knife-Leaf Wattle, Dogtooth Wattle

Acacia cultriformis (Knife Acacia) is a small, multi-stemmed, evergreen tree of rounded to vase-shaped habit adorned with silvery-gray leaves shaped like paring knife blades. The foliage remains lovely all year round. In spring, masses of scented, fluffy, yellow flowers cover the branches and create a striking floral display. Relatively long-lived (50 years), Knife Acacia makes a dramatic focal point. It is useful as a barrier or screen and is also perfect for banks and slopes. Its cut branches are attractive in flower arrangements.

  • Grows up to 10-20 ft. tall (300-600 cm) and 10-15 ft. wide (300-450 cm). Adds 24-36 in. per year (60-90 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun or light shade in dry to moist, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Susceptible to shot hole borer, root rot. Deer resistant.
  • Native to eastern Australia.
