Free-branching, Coleonema 'Sunset Gold' (Breath of Heaven) is an upright then spreading evergreen shrub with lacy and delicate, bright chartreuse needle-like leaves. The densely-packed foliage persists throughout the year and is aromatic when rubbed. Tiny white to pale-pink flowers bloom over a long season. Easy care, tolerant of drought, wind and coastal conditions, It is a terrific plant for contrasting other foliage colors and textures. Adding a bold accent to the landscape, Coleonema 'Sunset Gold' can be used as a specimen plant, massed as a groundcover on banks and slopes or planted along pathways where the aromatic foliage can be enjoyed by passing by.
- Grows up to 2-4 ft. tall (60-120 cm) and 4-6 ft. wide (120-180 cm).
- A full sun or light shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moderately fertile, moist but free-draining neutral to acid soil. Water moderately and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer from spring to fall. Water sparingly in winter. Drought tolerant once established.
- Perfect as a specimen plant, for foundation plantings, city gardens, coastal gardens, cottage gardens, rock gardens or containers.
- No serious pest issue. Keep an eye out for phytophthora root rot. Deer resistant.
- Prune immediately after flowering.
- Propagate by seed - surface sow seed at 55-60ºF (13-16ºC) in spring or propagate by semi-ripe cuttings with bottom heat in summer.
