Corydalis curviflora subsp. rosthornii 'Blue Heron' (Fumewort)

Fumewort 'Blue Heron', Fumitory 'Blue Heron', Corydalis 'Blue Heron'

Noted for its incredibly dark blue flowers, Corydalis curviflora subsp. rosthornii 'Blue Heron' (Fumewort) is a showy, erect perennial forming an attractive mound of lacy, highly divided, blue-green leaves. From late spring to mid-summer, large, very fragrant, sapphire blue flowers are produced atop stunning red stems above the foliage, creating a remarkable contrast. Easy to grow, this Fumewort goes summer dormant in hot areas but can bloom right through to late fall in cool summer areas. Perfect for the shade garden.

  • Grows in clumps, 8-10 in. tall and wide (20-25 cm). Does not self-seed.
  • Best in part shade, in moderately fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates full shade. Dislikes summer drought.
  • Virtually disease free. Watch for snails and slugs.
  • A great perennial plant for beds and borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or woodlands
  • Propagate by division in autumn
