Witch Hazel 'Orange Peel'
Noted for its attractive foliage, both in summer and fall, Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Orange Peel’ (Witch Hazel) is a vase-shaped deciduous shrub with sweetly fragrant, yellow-orange flowers from mid to late winter. Each flower consists of 4 ribbon-like, slightly curled and crimped, strap-shaped petals with a purple calyx. Clustered along the leafless branches, the flowers unfurl their spidery petals on mild days. But on cold days, they curl up again and nearly close up to prevent damage from freezing temperatures. Hardy, this flowering shrub sports broadly oval dark green leaves which turn often attractive shades of yellow to orange to red in fall.
