Juniperus chinensis ‘Stricta’ (Chinese Juniper)

Chinese Juniper 'Stricta'

Juniperus chinensis 'Stricta', Chinese Juniper Stricta, Evergreen Shrub, Evergreen Tree

Compact and slow-growing, Juniperus chinensis ‘Stricta’ (Chinese Juniper) is a narrow, pyramidal, evergreen shrub resembling the Italian cypress with its branches ascending to a point. Tightly branched, its soft, blue-green foliage is quite ravishing. Ideal for providing year-round structure, it makes a wonderful specimen plant and adds accent vertical lines to the landscape. The dense foliage makes it perfect for hedges and windbreaks too. A good choice for narrow spaces in need of a pointedly upright evergreen shrub.

  • Grows up to 5-6 ft. tall (150-180 cm) and 2-4 ft. wide (160-120 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates a wide range of soils including clay soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Perfect as a specimen plant, for foundation plantings, screens, or hedges.
  • Low maintenance, no pruning required.
  • Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings
  • Native to China, Japan, Mongolia and the Himalayas
