Ligularia przewalskii (Leopard Plant)

Leopard Plant, Przewalski's Golden Ray, Senecio przewalskii, Shavalski's ligularia

Impressive, Ligularia przewalskii (Leopard Plant) is a vigorous, clump-forming perennial noted for its spectacular flower spikes and gorgeous foliage. The large deep green leaves, palmately cut into jagged lobes, are borne on erect black stems and form a basal foliage mound of great ornamental value. In mid to late summer, the plant sends up tall, narrow spikes of small, bright golden-yellow flowers. Superb for the back of the border, this Leopard Plant is useful to make a bold statement along streams and ponds, around pools or in bog gardens. It will truly brighten up a cool, moist, partly shaded spot in the garden for decades to come!

  • Grows up to 4-6 ft. tall (120-180 cm) and 2-3 ft. wide (60-90 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun with some shade at mid-day or with dappled shade all day, in deep, fertile, reliably moist soils. Protect from strong, drying winds
  • Leopard Plant is generally disease free. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails.
  • Cut back after flowering
  • Propagate by division in spring or after flowering.
  • Native to northern China.
