Grown for its handsome foliage and daisy flowers, Farfugium japonicum (Leopard Plant) is a clump-forming perennial with extra large, long-stalked, leathery, kidney-shaped, glossy dark green leaves, 12 in. across (30 cm). Evergreen in warm winter climates, the foliage dies to the ground when temperatures fall to 20ºF (-6ºC). In late summer to fall, clusters of pale yellow daisy flowers bloom on branched stems that rise above the foliage. This big-leafed, water-loving plant is perfect for woodland gardens, bog gardens, borders, along ponds and streams. A choice container plant too.

  • Grows up to 2 ft. tall and wide (60 cm).
  • Performs best in sun or partial shade in organically rich, humusy, consistently moist, well-drained soils. Protect from strong, drying winds. Foliage may wilt in too much sun.
  • Leopard Plant is generally disease free. Keep an eye out for slugs and snails.
  • Propagate by division in spring.
  • Native to Japan.
