Noted for its bold arum-like flowers, Lysichiton camtschatcensis (Asian Skunk Cabbage) is a rhizomatous marginal aquatic perennial boasting fragrant blossoms adorned with a fleshy yellow-green spadix surrounded by a showy white spathe. Blooming in early to mid-spring, they appear before the foliage and rise up to 12 in. tall (30 cm). Huge and leathery, the paddle-like, shiny green leaves, up to 3 ft. long (90 cm), start to unfurl as the flowers fade. Clump-forming, Lysichiton camtschatcensis is easily grown in bogs or water gardens, providing a mass of fragrant spring flowers.
