Providing architectural height to borders, Macleaya microcarpa ‘Kelway’s Coral Plume’ is a vigorous, spreading perennial that produces tall, upright stems clad with rounded and lobed, gray-green leaves with downy white undersides. In summer, they are topped by large, airy panicles of tiny coral-pink flowers resembling hazy plumes. Both foliage and flowers are excellent for cutting.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Blooming profusely from mid or late summer to fall, ‘Kelway’s Coral Plume’ seldom needs staking.
  • Grows vigorously up to 6-8 ft. high (180-240 cm) and spreads 3-4 ft. (90-120 cm). Slow to get going (this plant usually barely grows in its first season), this plant can spread quickly, once established, to form a large colony. Make sure you remove unwanted shoots in the spring.
  • Performs best in full sun to part shade, in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. This plant will tolerate most soils. For the best foliage, provide shelter from cold winds.
  • Easy to grow, this plant is a welcomed addition to beds, borders, and cottage gardens
  • Cut down to the base in late fall. Propagate by division in late fall or spring or separate root rhizomes when dormant in winter and treat as you would root cuttings.
  • Generally pest and disease free.
