Malva moschata (Musk Mallow)

Musk Mallow

Malva moschata (Musk Mallow) is an upright, branching perennial boasting musk-scented, pale pink saucer-shaped flowers, 2.5 in. across (6 cm), over a long bloom period. Blooming in succession from early summer to fall, the showy flowers are arranged singly or in clusters in the leaf axils. They are visited by many insects and butterflies. The finely cut foliage is also musk-scented, particularly when crushed or brushed against. Musk Mallow is perfect for cottage or wildflower gardens.

  • Grows up to 2-3 ft. high (60-90 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm). Will self-seed in the garden if happy.
  • Performs best in full sun, in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Generally dislikes hot and humid summers.
  • Easy to grow, Musk Mallow is a welcomed addition to beds and borders, cottage gardens and wildflower meadows.
  • Virtually pest and disease free. Keep an eye out for rust or leaf spot.
  • Remove spent flowers to encourage continued bloom.
  • Propagate by seed or basal cuttings
  • Native to Europe and Northern Africa. Malva moschata can be considered an invasive species in locations with temperate climates.
