Aptly named, Phlox x procumbens ‘Pink Profusion’ (Hybrid Spring Phlox) is a mound-forming perennial boasting a profusion of large, deep purplish pink, star-shaped flowers, 1.2 in. across (3 cm), adorned with broad overlapping petals. Blooming for up to 8 weeks from mid-spring to early summer, the blossoms are produced in such great quantities that they cover the foliage and provide an excellent floral display. This hybrid spring phlox produces a dense mass of central stems in the spring, which after blooming become lax on the ground and may or may not layer in to form irregularly spreading mats. This phlox may die back during the summer but will produce a profusion of new flowers the following spring. Perfect for the front of perennial borders, in dappled shade gardens, or on moist slopes. Phlox x procumbens is the botanical name given to Phlox subulata (Moss Phlox) x Phlox stolonifera (Creeping Phlox) hybrids.

  • Grows only 6-8 in. tall (15-20 cm) and 18-24 in. wide (45-60 cm).
  • Thrives in full sun to part shade in moist, but well-drained soils with organic matter
  • Excellent choice for rock gardens, edgings, or ground covers. Perfectly suited to border fronts and lovely when slightly draping a rock wall. A great companion for tulips and daffodils… and butterflies too!
  • Hardy, this hybrid spring phlox is trouble-free and requires little care.
  • Readily propagated by shoot tip cuttings taken from new growth in spring to early summer.
