Blooming 2-3 weeks earlier than the typical Garden Phlox (P. paniculata), Phlox 'Fashionably Early Crystal' (Hybrid Phlox) is a charming herbaceous perennial boasting a profusion of pure white flowers adorned with a faint light purple eye. Blooming from early summer well into midsummer with some rebloom in fall, the fragrant flowers are rich in nectar and visited by bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. They are borne atop a bushy clump of broad, dark green, lush foliage that remains beautiful all season. Noted for its excellent mildew resistance, this hybrid phlox adds months of color to the garden. It is perfectly suited for the middle to back of the border.
- Grows up to 28-32 in. tall (70-80 cm) and 26-30 in. wide (65-75 cm).
- Prefers full sun to very light shade and enjoys moderately fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soils. This plant needs good air circulation! Avoid overhead watering and add summer mulch to keep the root area cool.
- Excellent choice for the perennial borders where the dazzling flowers are welcomed in any color scheme. May be planted as a single specimen or in groupings.
- Deadhead to preserve a neat appearance and promote new blooms. Cut back stems after flowering is over.
- Propagate by division in spring or autumn
