Popular since its introduction in 1964, Pinus heldreichii ‘Compact Gem’ (Bosnian Pine) is a compact evergreen conifer of dense, rounded to conical habit, adorned with a lush foliage of long, lustrous, deep green needles. Slow-growing, 6-10 in. per year (15-25 cm), this Bosnian Pine enjoys excellent disease and pest resistance and is a very pretty addition to the sunny garden, even the smallest of gardens as it grows slowly and does not exceed 12 ft. (360 cm) when fully mature.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Grows up to 12 ft. tall (360 cm) and 8 ft. wide (240 cm) at maturity.
  • Performs best in full sun in moist, well-drained soils. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, including both sandy and clay soils. Usually dislikes heat and humidity.
  • Perfect for coastal gardens, rock gardens, small gardens, or containers.
  • Watch for aphids, adelgids, sawflies and pine shoot moth. Easy to grow, easy to care for and rarely browsed by deer.
  • No pruning required.
  • Native to the Balkans, Italy and Greece.
