Pinus heldreichii 'Malink' (Bosnian Pine) is a densely branched evergreen conifer of conical habit adorned with a lush foliage of lustrous, stiff, upright, rich green needles. Egg-shaped cones appear at an early age, in groups of 2 or 3, blue at first then turning purplish-brown. Slow-growing, 6-10 in. per year (15-25 cm), handsome, compact and resistant to harsh conditions, it is a lovely choice for the sunny garden.

  • Grows up to 12 ft. tall (360 cm) and 8 ft. wide (240 cm) at maturity.
  • Performs best in full sun in moist, well-drained soils. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, including both sandy and clay soils. Usually dislikes heat and humidity.
  • Perfect for coastal gardens, rock gardens, small gardens, or containers.
  • Watch for aphids, adelgids, sawflies and pine shoot moth. Easy to grow, easy to care for and rarely browsed by deer.
  • No pruning required.
  • Native to the Balkans, Italy and Greece.
