Pinus heldreichii ‘Smidtii’ (Bosnian Pine) is a dwarf evergreen conifer of compact, globose habit when young, eventually becoming conical. Densely branched, its sharp, rigid, rich green needles are upward facing. This is an extremely slow-growing pine, 1 in. per year (2.5 cm). A very appealing addition to small gardens, rock gardens or containers.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society
  • Grows up to 12-18 in. tall and wide (30-45 cm) after 10 years.
  • Performs best in full sun in moist, well-drained soils. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, including both sandy and clay soils. Usually dislikes heat and humidity.
  • Perfect for coastal gardens, rock gardens, small gardens, or containers.
  • Watch for aphids, adelgids, sawflies and pine shoot moth. Easy to grow, easy to care for and rarely browsed by deer.
