Sanguisorba hakusanensis (Korean Burnet)
Korean Burnet, Korean Mountain Burnet, Lilac Squirrel
Sanguisorba hakusanensis (Korean Burnet) is a charming herbaceous perennial forming a deciduous rosette of blue-green, deeply cut, wavy-edged leaves. From midsummer to early fall, the basal rosette is topped with 3 ft. tall (90 cm) flower wands adorned with long, fluffy, pendulous pinkish-purple squirrel tails. Bringing movement to the garden and nodding with the wind, Korean Burnet makes a statement in the landscape. It can be used to provide a backdrop to a herbaceous border or as a specimen to draw the eye and amaze the onlooker.
- Grows in upright, bushy clumps, up to 36 in. high (90 cm) and 30 in. across (75 cm).
- Performs best in full sun to partial shade in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils that do not dry out.
- Makes a lovely accent in beds and borders, prairie plantings or wildlife gardens. Great for cutting too!
- Virtually pest and disease free
- Propagate by division in spring or autumn.
- Native to Korea and Japan.
