A border of Asters is an unforgettable spectacle in the fall. Combine the soft lavender-blue blossoms of Aster x frikartii ‘Monch’ (Frikart’s Aster), one of the first Asters to bloom, with the bright rose-pink flowers of New England Aster ‘Andenken an Alma Potschke’ (Aster novae-angliae). They will create a bold splash of color in the landscape over an extraordinarily long season.

Interplant them with the elegant clouds formed by the delicate flower panicles of Deschampsia cespitosa (Tufted Hair Grass), which will sway gracefully in the slightest breeze and persist well into winter.

Fairly easy to replicate, this planting is drought tolerant, deer and rabbit resistant. Most plants make great cut flowers to be enjoyed in a vase too.
