A particularly showy flowering species, Echeveria harmsii (Red Echeveria) is a succulent evergreen subshrub forming small rosettes of fleshy, narrow, dark green, velvet-plush leaves adorned with red edges. In spring, it sends up flowering stems bearing large, urn-shaped, bright orange flowers with golden throats which are highly attractive to hummingbirds. Grown for the beauty of its flowers rather than for its handsomely colored foliage, this Echeveria will occasionally offset and form a small colony.   • Grows up to 6-12 in. tall (15-30 cm) and 12-15 in. wide (30-37 cm).
  • Easily grown in sandy, dry, well-drained soils in sun or partial shade. Water moderately when in growth; not at all when dormant. Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer 2 or 3 times in the growing season.
  • Perfect for rock gardens, Mediterranean gardens, containers where spectacular floral arrangements can be created.
  • Propagate by seed sown as soon as ripe or by root, stem or leaf cuttings in spring
  • Virtually disease free. Watch for mealybugs, vine weevil and aphids
  • Native to Mexico
