Noted for its long, silvery catkins, Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’ (Silk Tassel Bush) is a large, vigorous, bushy evergreen shrub clothed in leathery, wavy-edged, dark green leaves. In winter, it is lit up by pendant, silvery, tassel-like male catkins, 8 in. long (20 cm), dangling like Christmas decorations. This upright shrub is V- shaped with multiple, reddish brown stems gracefully flaring from the base. It makes an attractive foil for other flowering plants during the growing season and makes a great conversation piece in winter!
