Native to South Africa, Felicia amelloides (Blue Daisy) is a bushy perennial or sub-shrub primarily grown for its long-lasting and showy flowers. Blooming throughout summer into fall, small, daisy-like flowers, 1.5 in. across (4 cm), with bright yellow centers surrounded by sky-blue ray florets, are borne on leafless stems. Visited by bees and butterflies, they rise well above the foliage of ovate, rough, hairy leaves, up to 1 in. long (2.5 cm) cm long. In hot summer areas, flowering usually declines or stops by mid-summer. Hardy, fast-growing, long-flowering, and long-lived, wind and drought resistant, Felicia amelloides needs only moderate water and little care to thrive. Catching the eye wherever it is planted, it makes an excellent garden plant.

  • Grows up to 12-24 in. tall and wide (30-60 cm).
  • Easily grown in average, well-drained soils in full sun. Water regularly, but moderately, especially during the dry season. Avoid wet soils. This plant thrives in poor, well-drained soils. Dislikes hot and humid summers.
  • Great for beds and borders, edging, city gardens, cottage gardens, Mediterranean gardens, rock gardens, or containers.
  • Generally disease free. Keep an eye out for aphids.
  • Propagate by seed or stem tip cuttings. Plants may also be grown from seed started indoors about 6-8 weeks prior to the last spring frost date. In cool summer climates, seed may be sown outdoors around the last spring frost date.
  • Native to South Africa.
