Admired for its striking foliage, Hakea victoria (Royal Hakea) is a small to medium sized evergreen shrub of tall, narrow habit. Reminiscent of a blazing summer sunset, its sharply serrated, leathery, dark green leaves display vibrant shades of yellow, orange and red. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. This handsome shrub is suited to growing in areas of low humidity. Royal Hakea is worthy of inclusion in the garden for its leaf color and texture that attract admirers from near and far. It is also well-suited for use in outdoor pots and containers. Tolerant of drought and coastal condition, Royal Hakea attracts birds into the garden and is also terrific for cut flower arrangements.

  • Grows up to 6-10 ft. tall (180-300 cm) and 3-5 ft. wide (90-150 cm).
  • A full sun lover, this plant is easily grown in dry, well-drained soils. Tolerates light shade. Water Hakea victoria until established. Drought tolerant.
  • Perfect as a specimen or accent plant, hedges. Great in Mediterranean gardens and coastal gardens.
  • Generally pest and disease free.
  • Propagate by seed, softwood cuttings, semi-hardwood cuttings.
