Ilex x meserveae Castle Wall® (Blue Holly)

Blue Holly Castle Wall®, Ilex x meserveae 'Heckenstar' PP14308

Vigorous and well-branched, Ilex x meserveae Castle Wall® (Blue Holly) is a compact, upright, evergreen shrub of pyramidal habit with excellent year round interest, thanks to its shiny foliage of small, oval, serrated leaves, that remains dark green throughout the winter. Castle Wall® is a male plant that does not get fruit but will serve to pollinate female varieties like Castle Spire® to produce the attractive red berries. Ideal for hedges, foundation plantings, or even as a dramatic specimen, this is an outstanding plant for the winter landscape.

  • Grows up to 5-8 ft. tall (150-240 cm) and 3-4 ft. wide (90-120 cm).
  • A full sun to part shade lover, this plant is best grown in average, medium, well-drained soils. Tolerates light or heavy soils but prefers moist, acidic soils.
  • Generally pest and disease free
  • Mass in mixed shrub borders. Perfect as a specimen plant, hedges or for foundation plantings.
