Lodgepole Pine 'Chief Joseph', Beach Pine 'Chief Joseph', Shore Pine 'Chief Joseph', Twisted-Branch Pine 'Chief Joseph'

Noted for its stunning winter foliage, Pinus contorta 'Chief Joseph' (Shore Pine) is a dwarf evergreen conifer of irregular, upright habit. Light yellow-green in spring and summer, its needles turn brilliant gold in the fall and winter months as temperatures drop - when most color fades from the garden. Slow-growing, 6-8 in. per year (15-20 cm), it is a terrific accent specimen adding brightness to the dull winter landscape.

  • Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
  • Grows up to 6-20 ft. tall (180-600 cm) and 4-6 ft. wide (120-180 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in acid or neutral, well-drained soils.
  • No pruning is required.
  • Keep an eye out for adelgids, aphids, sawflies, pine shoot moth, and pine needle cast.
  • Propagate by grafting.
