Austrian Pine 'Komet', Black Pine 'Komet', Calabrian Pine 'Komet', Corsican Pine 'Komet', Larch Pine 'Komet', European Black Pine 'Komet'

Stately, Pinus nigra ‘Komet’ (Austrian Pine) is an evergreen conifer of narrowly upright and columnar habit. The dense and compact, upward-growing branches are adorned with the lush foliage of silvery green needles, which persist for several years on the tree. A moderate grower, 6-12 in. per year (15-30 cm), this lovely Austrian Pine is a beautiful vertical accent in the sunny garden. Makes an excellent specimen, screen, or windbreak.

  • Grows up to 15 ft. tall (450 cm) and 4 ft. wide (120 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun in moist, well-drained soils. Tolerates clay soils, urban pollution, salt, and drought once established. Thrives better than other pines in chalky soils.
  • Perfect for coastal gardens, cottage gardens, hedges, and windbreaks.
  • Watch for aphids, adelgids, sawflies, and pine shoot moths. Easy to grow, easy to care for, and rarely browsed by deer.
  • Will require regular care and upkeep.
  • Native to Southern and Eastern Europe.
