Pinus parviflora 'Tempelhof' (Japanese White Pine)

Japanese White Pine 'Tempelhof'

Pinus parviflora 'Tempelhof' (Japanese White Pine) is an evergreen conifer of dense, conical habit clothed in attractive, steel blue needles that are presented in bundles of five. They retain their pretty color throughout the winter. Very conspicuous, the abundant pink and purple cones (produced at a young age) make a wonderful color contrast with the silvery foliage. A moderate grower, 6-9 in. per year (15-22 cm), this cultivar of Japanese White Pine creates a striking landscape element wherever it is planted and makes a terrific specimen tree.

  • Grows up to 7-10 ft. tall and wide (2-3 m) after 20 years.
  • Performs best in full sun in medium moisture, well-drained soils. Plants prefer cool summer climates and dislike heat and humidity. Drought tolerant once established. Tolerates salt spray.
  • Easy to grow, easy to care for and rarely browsed by deer.
  • No pruning required.
  • Native to Japan, Korea.
