Thymophylla tenuiloba (Dahlberg Daisy)

Bristleleaf Pricklyleaf, Dahlberg Daisy, Golden Fleece, Shooting Star, Dyssodia tenuiloba

Blooming over a long season, Thymophylla tenuiloba (Dahlberg Daisy) is an upright to spreading, short-lived perennial often grown as an annual. From early summer to early fall, it boasts a profusion of small, yellow daisy-like flowers, 1/2 in. across (1 cm). The brilliant flowers are borne atop the aromatic foliage of finely divided leaves. Heat-loving and drought tolerant, this native from Texas to Florida is a great choice for edging, borders, rock gardens or as a ground cover.

  • Grows up to 6-12 in. tall and wide (15-30 cm). May self-seed in the garden if happy.
  • Performs best in full sun in dry to medium, well-drained soils. Thrives in sandy soils with excellent drainage. Drought tolerant.
  • Perfect for sunny borders, rock gardens, containers or as a ground cover.
  • No serious pest or disease issues. Root rot may occur in poorly-drained soils.
  • Deadhead spent flowers to promote new blooms.
  • Sow seed directly in garden areas 1-2 weeks before the last frost date for bloom four months later. Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date for earlier bloom.
  • Native from Texas to Florida, and Mexico.
