Acer shirasawanum 'Jordan' (Full Moon Maple)

Full Moon Maple 'Jordan', Shirasawa Maple 'Jordan'

Acer shirasawanum 'Jordan' (Full Moon Maple) is a vigorous small tree of upright habit, noted for its outstanding yellow-leaved foliage. Emerging bright yellow with rose-orange edges in spring, the rounded, palmate leaves, adorned with 9-11 lobes, change to stunning bright yellow through the summer. These colors are strongest in full sun or very light shade. In the fall, they turn brilliant shades of orange and red. The gray bark of the trunk and branches contrasts nicely with the foliage. Slow-growing, this luminous maple cultivar is suitable for most garden settings and is perfect for small gardens or containers.

  • Grows up to 8-12 ft. tall (240-360 cm) and 4-6 ft. (120-180 cm) at maturity.
  • A full sun or part shade lover, this plant is easily grown in moist, organically rich, well-drained soils. Mulch helps retain soil moisture and keep roots cool. Best leaf color in sun or light shade.
  • Perfect as a specimen plant in cottage gardens, city gardens .
  • Low maintenance, this plant needs little pruning. If pruning is necessary, prune during the dormant season and avoid pruning in spring when the sap is running. Fertilize in spring before the leaves emerge.
  • May be affected by horse chestnut scale, aphids, verticillium wilt.
  • Propagate by grafting
