Bergenia Abendglocken
Abendglocken Bergenia, Bergenia 'Evening Bells'
Bergenia 'Abendglocken' or 'Evening Bells' is a clump-forming evergreen perennial noted for its outstanding large-leaved foliage that turns brilliant burgundy during the winter. Borne on stout stems in early spring, erect clusters of bright rosy-red flowers rise above the attractive foliage of crinkled, leathery, dark green leaves which is often used in floral arrangements. Low maintenance, this Bergenia is primarily grown as a ground cover and looks stunning in mass plantings.
- Grows up to 12-18 in. tall and wide (30-45 cm).
- Easily grown in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soils in sun or part shade. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including poor soils, but dislikes hot, dry conditions. Heavy shade tolerant too!
- Undemanding and virtually disease-free, this Bergenia is a welcomed addition to beds and borders, banks and slopes, cottage gardens, coastal gardens or city gardens. Effective as a groundcover or edging paths and walkways.
- Deer and rabbit resistant.
- Remove faded flower spikes
- Propagate by division or root rhizomes sections in fall or spring
