Corydalis elata (Fumewort)

Fumewort, Fumitory, Blue Corydalis

Noted for its true blue flowers and gardenia fragrance, Corydalis elata (Fumewort) is an evergreen perennial of upright habit, forming an attractive mound of lacy, bright yellow-green leaves. From late spring to midsummer, wonderfully fragrant, cobalt blue, dangling flowers are borne on erect stems. They contrast beautifully with the foliage. Easy to grow, Corydalis elata does not go summer dormant and is regarded as the best of the true blue Corydalis. Perfect as a ground cover in woodland and naturalized areas.

  • Grows in clumps, 12-18 in. tall and wide (30-45 cm). Self-sows freely.
  • Best in part shade, in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. Dislikes summer drought.
  • Virtually disease and pest free.
  • A great perennial plant for beds and borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, or woodlands
  • Native to China
