Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xsenia’

Mexican Aster 'Xsenia'

Cosmos Xsenia, Mexican Aster Xsenia, Cosmos Bipinnatus Xsenia, Terracotta Cosmos, Orange Cosmos

Noted for its color changing during the season, Cosmos bipinnatus ‘Xsenia’ is a dwarf, half-hardy annual boasting single, rosy-pink flowers, up to 3 in. across (7 cm), overlaid with a soft peach glow. In full sun, the petals appear pink and as the light fades in the evening or on cloudy days, the peach-coral tones become more pronounced. Blooming for months from early summer to fall, the ravishing blossoms are borne on branching stems above a fine, feathery foliage. Fairly pest-free and low maintenance, add this charming plant to the landscape, and you will be rewarded with abundant butterflies. This rich-flowering Cosmos is ideally suited for the patio and terrace and is a true eye-catcher in the border.

  • Grows up to 24 in. tall (60 cm) and 16 in. wide (40 cm).
  • Performs best in full sun, in average, moist, well-drained soils.
  • An ideal addition to beds and borders, containers, cottage gardens, prairies and meadows, and cutting gardens.
  • Keep an eye out for aphids, slugs, and gray molds.
  • Propagate by seeds. Plant out after the danger of frost has passed at a 10 in. (25 cm) distance on a sunny spot. It will take approx. 70 days from sowing to flowering.
  • Pinching off dead blossoms will promote continuous blooming. If the flower heads remain, the cosmos will self-seed, but will not become a nuisance.
  • Cosmos bipinnatus species is native to Mexico.
