Noted for its dark foliage, Geranium pratense ‘Midnight Reiter’ is a herbaceous perennial with finely-divided, deep plum purple leaves. From early to late summer, the attractive foliage mound is topped with abundant clusters of vibrant lilac-blue flowers which contrast nicely with the dark leaves. Short and compact, this hardy geranium is perfect for containers or the front of the garden.

  • Clump-forming and vigorous, this deciduous perennial reaches 8-10 in. in height (20-25 cm) and spreads 12 in. wide (30 cm). This sturdy performer is not only easy to grow, but it also requires very little maintenance and is pest and disease free!
  • Performs best in full sun or part shade, in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers moist, organic soils. Drought tolerant, once established, it is attractive to butterflies, but deer and rabbit resistant.
  • A perfect border plant, it is a spectacular addition to beds, borders, cottage gardens, underplanting roses and shrubs or containers and is an excellent choice as a groundcover or edging plant.
  • Remove flowered stems and old leaves to encourage the production of fresh leaves and flowers
  • Propagate by division in spring or propagate by basal cuttings in early to mid-spring and root with bottom heat
