Luminescent in the shade, Geranium clarkei 'Kashmir White' (Cranesbill) is a rhizomatous, spreading herbaceous perennial with a profusion of large, upward-facing, white flowers, 2 in. wide (5 cm), adorned with contrasting lilac-pink veins. Blooming profusely from late spring to midsummer, the blossoms arise from an attractive foliage mat of deeply-lobed leaves (7 lobes). Cutting back to the ground after the first flush of blooms and fertilizing will often promote a second bloom. Easy to grow, this cranesbill does not do well in areas with high summer heat or high humidity. One of the loveliest of all the clarkei selections.
- Grows up to 1-2 ft. tall and wide (30-60 cm). Will self-seed in the garden in optimum growing conditions.
- Performs best in full sun or part shade in moderately fertile, well-drained soils. Prefers moist, humusy, well-drained soils. Full shade is tolerated.
- A showy addition to beds and borders, cottage gardens. Perfect for underplanting roses and shrubs or as a groundcover.
- Fairly pest and disease free but watch for vine weevil, capsid bug, sawflies and powdery mildew
- Remove flowered stems and old leaves to encourage the production of fresh leaves and flowers. Propagate by division in spring or propagate by basal cuttings in early to mid spring and root with bottom heat.
