Helleborus Molly's White (Hellebore)
Molly's White Hellebore, Hellebore Molly's White, Helleborus 'Epbrd01', Helleborus × ericsmithii Molly's White, Rodney Davey Marbled Group, Frostkiss Series
Helleborus Molly's White is a beautiful and popular Lenten rose with divided, leathery, moss-green foliage veined in silvery white. The foliage is evergreen and can provide year-round interest in the garden, even when the plant is not in bloom. In the late winter and early spring, cup-shaped, greenish-white flowers dangle from tall stems rising above the foliage mound. Molly's White is a hardy and low-maintenance plant that can add a beautiful touch to shady or woodland gardens and is also deer-resistant.
- Grows in a bushy, upright clump, up to 18-24 in. tall and wide (45-60 cm).
- Performs best in part shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist, neutral to alkaline, well-drained soils. Can tolerate some sun if the roots are kept cool. Avoid soils prone to drying out or staying wet.
- Select a sheltered site to protect your hellebores from cold winter winds.
- Easy to grow, this plant is a welcomed addition to shady borders, containers, under trees or large shrubs, woodland gardens, or cottage gardens. Plant in groups for the best visual impact.
- Hellebore flowers provide valuable nectar for early pollinators. Hellebore is not generally a plant that deer or other animals seek out to eat, but if other food sources are scarce, they may come along and make a meal out of your Hellebore.
- No serious pest or disease issues. Keep an eye out for aphids, leafminers, snails, hellebore leaf spot, and hellebore black death.
- Remove faded flower stems (unless you require seed) to promote new growth and for a neat appearance.
- Cut back to the ground brown or dead foliage in late winter when flower buds start to develop.
- Propagate by seed or by division in autumn.
- Ingestion may cause severe discomfort, and skin irritant. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling.
- Toxic to dogs, toxic to cats, toxic to horses, toxic to humans.
