Philadelphus 'Avalanche', Mock Orange 'Avalanche',Philadelphus lemoinei 'Avalanche', flowering shrub, White flowers, Fragrant shrub, Flowering Shrub

Regarded as one of the most fragrant of all Mock Oranges, Philadelphus ‘Avalanche’ is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub of great beauty when in bloom. In late spring to early summer, its pleasantly arching branches bear clusters of cup-shaped, 4-petaled, white flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), at their tips. The blossoms stand out against the foliage of oval, dark green leaves. Introduced in 1896, ‘Avalanche’ is a lovely flowering shrub that deserves a spot where its fragrance can be enjoyed.

  • Grows with an upright, arching habit to 4-5 ft. tall (120-150 cm) and 5-10 ft. wide (150-300 cm).
  • A full sun to light shade lover, this plant is best grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. This plant is not fussy about soils as long as they have good drainage. Drought tolerant.
  • Generally pest and disease free. Watch for leaf spot, canker, powdery mildew and rust.
  • Great for shrub borders, foundation plantings, and informal flowering hedges.
  • Blooms on previous year’s wood, so prune immediately after flowering. May be cut to the ground to rejuvenate this shrub.
  • Propagate by softwood or hardwood cuttings
