A reliable bloomer, Primula 'Crescendo Blue Shades' (Polyanthus Primrose) is a semi-evergreen perennial producing umbels of large, cobalt-blue flowers adorned with a bright yellow heart. Blooming from late winter to early spring, they stand out beautifully against the rosette of oval, wrinkled, dark green leaves. Easy to grow, this primrose looks terrific in large bedding displays with tulips and pansies.
- Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.
- Grows up to 6-8 in. tall (15-20 cm) and 6-10 in. wide (15-25 cm).
- A part shade lover, it is best grown in humus-rich, moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils.
- A versatile primrose that can be used in beds and borders, in cottage gardens, city gardens, or in containers. Perfect for underplanting shrubs and roses.
- Deadhead after flowering. Watch out for pests such as aphids, leafhoppers, vine weevil, slugs, and glasshouse red spider mites. May be subject to gray molds.
- Propagate by seed or division in autumn and early spring.
