If you are looking for golden blooms in mid or late summer, award-winner Rudbeckia laciniata ‘Herbstsonne’ (aka ‘Autumn Sun’) will not disappoint you. Very tall, this late flowering Coneflower features large daisy blossoms, 4-5 in. across (10-12 cm), with broad, drooping, bright golden petals surrounding a prominent pale green conical center that turns brown as it matures. Blooming profusely from midsummer to fall, the blossoms rise atop sturdy, upright stems above the healthy foliage of glossy mid-green leaves, that remain lovely throughout the entire season. Its attractive seedheads further extend its season of interest and will be visited in the fall and winter by birds that will feast on them.

  • Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society (2002) for its noteworthy qualities.
  • Grows in upright clumps, up to 4-7 ft. tall (120-210 cm) and 3-5 ft. wide (90-150 cm).
  • Easy to grow, trouble-free, and low care, it performs best in full sun or part shade in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils. If kept well watered and grown in full sun, this beauty will not require staking for most of the season.
  • Great at the back of borders, in meadows, or in cottage gardens. This Rudbeckia makes excellent cut flowers if you can reach them!
  • Attracts butterflies, but deer ignore it!
  • Deadhead spent flowers to encourage additional bloom.
  • Propagate by division in spring or autumn
