Native to the Middle East, Scilla hyacinthoides (Hyacinth Squill) is a bulbous perennial boasting tall flower spikes bearing hundreds of small star-shaped violet-blue flowers adorned with white bracts. Blooming in early to mid-spring, they rise above a rosette of long, narrow, strap-shaped, green leaves. Very hardy and shade tolerant, Hyacinth Squill is a beautiful and reliable addition to the landscape, where it will happily multiply in optimum growing conditions. Excellent for naturalizing in borders, rockeries, wild gardens, woodland, and between shrubs and trees.

  • Typically grows up to 1-3 ft. tall (30-90 cm). Foliage will disappear by summer as the plant goes dormant.
  • Easily grown in poor, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Provide little irrigation.
  • This plant is rarely affected by pests or diseases.
  • To be planted in fall.
  • The whole plant is poisonous. Ingestion may cause severe discomfort. Wear gloves and wash your hands after handling.
