The genus Scilla (Squills or Bluebells) consists of about 90 species, mostly native to woodlands, subalpine meadows, and seashores throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle-East. A few species are also naturalized in Australia, New Zealand and North America. Treasured for their flowers, most Scillas bloom in spring, but a few species produce their pretty blooms in late summer or fall.
