Adiantum raddianum (Delta Maidenhair)

Delta Maidenhair, Adiantum cuneatum, Adiantum rubellum


Elegant and fast-growing, Adiantum raddianum (Delta Maidenhair) is a tufted evergreen fern with smooth, purplish-black stalks bearing triangular, 3-pinnate, lacy fronds composed of rounded, fan-shaped segments. Emerging light green, they darken with age and can reach 18 in. in length (45 cm). Popular as a houseplant, it is long-lived if it receives sufficient humidity and is not exposed to drafts.

  • Grows up to 1-2 ft. tall and wide (30-60 cm).
  • A part to full shade lover, it is best grown in moist, well-drained soils. If grown in full shade, the foliage will lose its vitality. As a houseplant, grow it in bright indirect light in the summer and full light in the winter.
  • A great choice for beds and borders, underplanting shrubs and roses, or containers.
  • Virtually disease free. Deer resistant.
  • The plant requires little pruning other than the removal of dead leaves. Propagate by spores.
  • Native to Tropical Americas, West Indies
