Adiantum raddianum (Delta Maidenhair)

Delta Maidenhair, Adiantum cuneatum, Adiantum rubellum


Elegant and fast growing, Adiantum raddianum (Delta Maidenhair) is a tufted evergreen fern with smooth, purplish-black stalks bearing triangular, 3-pinnate, lacy fronds composed of rounded, fan-shaped segments. Emerging light green, they darken with age and can reach 18 in. in length (45 cm). Popular as houseplant, it is long lived if it receives sufficient humidity and is not exposed to drafts.

  • Grows up to 1-2 ft. tall and wide (30-60 cm).
  • A part to full shade lover, it is best grown in moist, well-drained soils. If grown in full shade, foliage will lose its vitality. As a houseplant, grow it in bright indirect light in the summer and full light in the winter.
  • Great choice for beds and borders, underplanting shrubs and roses or containers.
  • Virtually disease free. Deer resistant.
  • Plant requires little pruning other than the removal of dead leaves. Propagate by spores.
  • Native to Tropical Americas, West Indies
